  To phone to Italy from other countries you have to dial :
  • Your "foreign call" code (different in each country)
    011 from USA, 00 from Uk and Germany
  • The Italian international country code : 39 .
  • The City Code
  • The phone number
    Example :
    In Italy phone numbers are always listed as City Code + Phone number as in 0577-1234567..., so you have to dial your "foreign call" code, the Italian international code, the city code and phone number.
    From USA you have to dial : 011 39 0577 1234567...

• Attention: You have always to dial the City Code number, even if you are in the same city!
  
  Public telephones :
  • Coins : All public phones accept 100, 200, 500 Lire coins. A city call of a few minutes usually costs 200 Lire.
  • Phone cards : Almost every public phone accepts phone cards, which cost 5 Euro or 10 Euro. You can buy them in every Bar, in tobacco shops and in other stores. Please control exipiration date.
  • Credit Cards phones : Many public phones accepts a special phone credit card "Carta di credito telefonica" solded only in Italy and not useful for tourist purposes. Other credit cards are not accepted except at major airports!. Pre-paid international phone cards are the best solution for tourist.
