Some people
may not be aware that this small seaside resort, on a promontory
to the south of the Cape Licosa, was one of the great American
writer Ernest Hemingway's favourite places. He came back many
times, seduced by the beauty of the sea. Although at that time
the countryside was more raw and solitary, the passage of time
has not detracted greatly from the charm of this little tourist
port where the oldest houses were built directly onto the rocks.
ACCIAROLI
is small and genuine fishing villages that become famous for
Hemingway visit in 1952; He came back many times, seduced by the
beauty of the sea starting point for his novel ?The old man and
the sea?.
Although at
that time the countryside was more raw and solitary, the passage
of time has not detracted greatly from the charm of this little
tourist port where the oldest houses were built directly onto
the rocks.
The
historical center
today still
spreads the austere charm of times long gone, with its with
narrow alleys, the picturesque seaside promenade and the church,
which seems to loom above the sea where fishing still plays an
important role.
Although today
the village
is one of
the Cilento's larger resorts and a port for the high-speed boat
plying the coast during summer, very few know its beauties.
Probably it is quite this that gives to it a special charm and
an uncontaminated look.
This corner
of Campania was a meeting and exchange point in the middle of
the Mediterranean Sea from very remote times. The continuous
contrast of cultures during the centuries characterized its
history.
Interesting
to see is the Annunziata?s church built in 1100 and the Norman
tower built before 1233 famous to have been the guardian tower
during the reign of Federico II.
