Il Genio di Palermo
(The Genius of Palermo; 13 - 27 May 2006 (annual)
A
contemporary art exhibition that promotes the works of young
local talent. It takes place at venues in the city's historic
centre, where the majority of the artists' studios are located.
Photography, painting, video and installations are just some of
the techniques used by the 32 selected artists to create their
artworks, which are evaluated by an international panel of
museum directors, art critics and experts.

Palermo's Giardino Inglese
(English Garden) is the venue for the Solmusic festival,
dedicated to emerging local bands.

Festa di Santa Rosalia:
This "little" festival (festino) has been celebrating
the memory of Palermo's patron saint, Santa Rosalia, for
nearly 400 years! Massive parades and processions take over
the historical centre of the city and there's an evening of
fireworks and music on the last day.
The
thematically adorned Carro of the saint is the
centrepiece of the main parade, on the 14 July, as well as being
an important symbol of the celebrations as a whole.

Verdura Festival:
Variety is what the Verdura Festival in Palermo's Teatro
Massimo is all about. Classical, rock, pop, dance and more
are all featured during this summer festival. This year's
line-up includes Joaqu? Cort?, Graig David and STOMP. For

Kals?Art: For the second year running,
Kals'Art brings music, cinema, theatre and guided tours
together in a two-month long event that takes place
throughout Palermo's streets, parks, piazzas and historic
bulidings.
A huge
variety of music is grouped into four sections. Mare
offers performances by international talents such as Erica Stuky,
Rokia Traor? Mafalda Arnoux and Victoria Tolstoj. Riflessi
is dedicated to minimalist, ethnic and jazz tunes with the
participation of Gebbia-Reg?, Guerzoni-Mirandola, Sciaino-Curran
and the Palermo-based duos Leopizzi-Gullo, Giannetto-Politi,
Pasquini-Sulis and Bonafede-D'Anna. Kals'Art Wawe
showcases Italian folk and jazz music, while Musica alle
Parole combines music and readings at intervals.
